Costco Same-Day Delivery is Powered by Instacart

Your Costco Same‑Day account is tied to your Costco.com login.

To update personal details, like your membership number, email, or password you can do so directly on Costco.com under Account Details.

  • After updating, sign out of Same‑Day and sign back in so your changes sync.
  •  If updates don’t appear: Clear your browser cache/cookies
  • Or in the Costco app, go to Account > Settings > Reset App Data

Help Placing Orders

Shopping

  • Search for items or browse by department
  • Add items using the + button and adjust quantities as you shop.
  • Open your cart anytime to review items, totals, and delivery windows.

Checkout

  • Go to your cart and select Checkout.
  • Add your delivery address and payment method.
  • You can schedule delivery up to 5 days ahead.

Custom Cakes

  • Custom cakes require a 48-hour lead time for ordering.
  • Go to Departments > Cakes and select a cake labeled Custom.
  • Choose your design, writing, and colors.
  • Your cake and any groceries will be delivered together.
  • You cannot cancel or change the order after midnight of the day you placed it.
  • Custom cake orders cannot be rescheduled.

Help with Shopping and Updating Items

Changing Your Order

  • Before shopping starts, you can make changes directly on the Order page. 
  • After shopping starts, message your shopper through the Chat feature.

Chat with Your Shopper

Opt-in to SMS-text messages on Same Day

  • Navigate to the Menu and choose Notification settings where you can add your phone number to be verified.
  • Receive any updates and message shoppers directly via SMS on your order.
  • Standard message and data rates may apply.

Chat with shoppers on the Same Day site

  • When an order is being shopped, you can click into the Order Status page to see which items are being shopped, which items are out of stock, and which items are being replaced.
  • You can chat directly with your shopper to update them on any changes to items or shopping while it is happening.

Finding Items

  • Try searching with a broader keyword. If the item still doesn’t appear, it is likely out of stock.
  • Use Add a special request at the bottom of the results for requesting specific variations of an item.
  • Describe the item clearly and add a photo if possible.

Item Instructions

  • Add notes in your cart or at checkout (e.g., “green bananas”).
  • Your notes carry over to future orders unless you update them.

Replacement Instructions

Choose one of three options for out‑of‑stock items:

  1. Find Best Match
  2. Pick Specific Replacement
  3. Don’t Replace
  • You can pre-select one of these options before shopping takes place. If you do not the shopper will chat you asking for preferences or fulfill based on what is available
  • Go to Account > Your orders > Current order > See Shopped Items.
  1. Approve the suggested replacement
  2. Choose another option
  3. Message your shopper to change or refund the item entirely

Help with Tracking Deliveries

Checking Status of a Placed Order

  • Go to Account > Order History and select your order.
  • You’ll get text alerts when shopping and delivery begin. 

Chatting with Your Shopper

  • Use Chat to ask questions or provide updates. Drivers may not reply while driving.

Tracking Your Delivery

  • You’ll receive an ETA and a map (if available) to track your driver.
  • You can also send last‑minute instructions through Chat.

If the Driver can’t reach you:

  • They’ll call or text you first.
  • Orders may be canceled if the driver cannot reach you
  • Any alcohol items or certified delivery, high value items can not be left at the door, and require your presence. If a driver can not reach you, the order will be returned to the store

Leave at My Door

  • You can choose the option for your delivery to be left at your door during checkout. 
  • The driver will leave your order at the door and take a photo. 
  • This option is not available for alcohol, prescription, or high-value item delivery.
  • You accept responsibility for the order after drop‑off.

Help Rescheduling Orders

Rescheduling

You can reschedule anytime before a shopper begins your order.

  • To reschedule within the Same Day site, go to:
  • Desktop: Account > Order History
  • Mobile: Menu > Order History
  • Select your order > Reschedule > Save
  • Custom Cake orders cannot be rescheduled

Help with Refunds, Returns & Cancellations

Item and Order Refunds can be requested within 7 days of delivery

  • Go to Order History > select your order > Report a Problem.
  • Refunds can go back to your card or be issued as Instacart credit.
  • Bank refunds may take 5–10 business days.
  • Instacart credits can be viewed in the Credits, promos & gift cards section of your Instacart account. Credits will automatically apply during checkout on your next order.
  • Always raise issues with Instacart before filing a dispute with your bank. 
  • Filing a dispute with your bank will pause your account for up to 90 days. No future orders can be processed and refunds cannot be issued while there is an open dispute.

Items purchased with SNAP EBT funds

  • Per the USDA’s requirements, SNAP/EBT items purchased on Same-Day (powered by Instacart) can only be refunded through the Same-Day (powered by Instacart) site and cannot be refunded at the warehouse.
  • Instacart is able to process these refunds for up to 90 days post-delivery.

Returns 

  • Bring items to any Costco warehouse.
  • A receipt helps, but isn’t always required.

Cancellations

  • You can cancel free before shopping begins.
  • If shopping has started, a fee up to $15 may apply.

Help with Alcohol Deliveries

  • Alcohol may only be purchased by someone 21+ 
  • Orders with alcohol cannot be left at the door, you must be present to receive alcohol orders.
  • Alcohol cannot be left unattended or delivered to someone intoxicated.
  • Shoppers must scan your valid ID.
  • If ID requirements can’t be met, the alcohol is refunded.
  • Each state has their own legal restrictions on the delivery of alcohol, including volume limits. If you see alcohol displayed on the site and can not check out, try removing some of the items.

Help with Prescription Deliveries

Ordering

  • Have your prescription sent to a participating Costco pharmacy.
  • Follow the link in the pharmacy’s text message to add it to your cart.
  • You can add groceries only before selecting “No, continue to checkout.”

Delivery

  • Your shopper must scan your ID and, collect a signature.
  • Prescriptions cannot be left unattended, so there is no leave at door option for deliveries with a prescription
  • Someone 18+ must be present.

Help with Payment

Payments

  • All order payments must be made within the Same Day site.
  • Shoppers cannot accept cash, checks, or third‑party apps as a form of payment for your delivery.
  • This does not include tips, which shoppers can accept in different payment methods.

Gift Cards

  • You can add a gift card under Account > Credits and Promos > Add promotion or gift Card
  • OR add a gift card during checkout

Understanding Charges

Unknown charges may be due to:

  • Instacart+ membership fees
  • Temporary authorization holds
  • Adjustments from replacements or weight‑based items

Authorization Holds

  • Holds on your payment are slightly higher than your estimated total and are adjusted after your order is placed to reflect final item prices.
  • Holds clear after delivery or cancellation (within 3–5 business days, depending on your bank).

Fraud Concerns

  • If a charge looks fraudulent, contact Instacart before filing a bank dispute.
  • Filing a dispute with your bank will pause the account for up to 90 days. No future orders can be processed and refunds cannot be issued while there is an open dispute.

Instacart + Costco Member Benefits

Costco members can receive:

  • A $79 annual Instacart+ membership
  • Up to 3.5% off Same‑Day orders
  • A 2‑month Instacart+ trial (for new Instacart+ members)
  • Your eligibility depends on your Costco membership status and whether you’ve had Instacart+ before.

Locations and Special Programs

Costco Business Centers

  • Business Centers offer a different product assortment.
  • You can switch between sites using the top navigation bar.

Fairbanks, Alaska Bulk Pickup

  • Orders must be $500 or more (excluding fees).
  • Item prices are the same as in-store prices at the time the order is placed 
  • Bulk orders incur a $20 fee.
  • You can schedule pickup from Mon-Fri during normal warehouse hours
  • Pickup times are subject to warehouse availability.
  • Returns process is the same as regular orders.

Other Item Information

Food Safety

  • Shoppers follow food‑safety training and guidelines.
  • Insulated bags and coolers protect temperature‑sensitive items during delivery.

Product Information

  • Product details on the site may differ from actual packaging.
  • Always review the labels on the items you receive, especially for allergens.

Item RecallsTo request a refund for a recalled item:

  • Go to Account > Your Orders > View Order Detail > Need help with something?
  • Select Expired or spoiled items > choose the item > Request Refund
  • Refunds typically arrive within 5–10 business days.
  • You can also call Instacart at 1‑888‑246‑7822 for help with recalls.
